Canon Info

What is the character's involvement in the story?: Arthur is one of the main protagonists of the story of Mystery Skulls animated. They are a canon character as well and recurring through both episodes of the series so far.

Major relationships to canon characters (officially)?: Arthur is not directly related to any of the canon characters but has strong ties to all but one thus far. Arthur is friends with Vivi and Mystery, being a part of the Mystery Skulls Paranormal Investigation crew. He clearly has a strong bond for Vivi and one that compels him to find Lewis, despite being dejected when Lewis was around.

Arthur and Lewis were friends, with Arthur clinging to Lewis and staying with him when he was scared. They were clearly close, despite Arthur's dejected feelings. The exact nature of their relationship is in the air as far as the canon was concerned but it's clear he cares for Lewis enough to try and find him.

Mystery and Arthur have a nebulous relationship in the series so far. Not much is shown with them interacting other than Arthur's freakout when Mystery transformed into his true form.

Arthur's relationship with the spirit/entity in the cave is unknown other than the spirit was able to enter and possess Arthur's left hand and half of his face. Arthur could not stop the spirit from pushing Lewis off the cliff and killing him. After the removal of his left arm, Lewis appears to be free from its control, though the spirit now inhabits his left arm and is able to move around freely inside said arm.

Arthur has no apparent connection to Shiromori as of yet.

What has been canonly mentioned about the character?: Taking from MysteryBen27's Tumblr, Arthur is the sole employee of his Uncle's car shop. He learned his skills in repairing cars from his Uncle while developing his own interest in robotics. He has the independent thinker personality and has strong symbolism with the sunflower due to Shiromori's tracking spell. His blood type is A which also plays off of Japanese blood type personality traits.

Headcanon Info

Have you attempted this character before? Where/How long? Only once and he was not accepted due to "published characters only" as a rule in the game I attempted to app him in.

A brief idea of your headcanon on this character's personality/history: I headcanon for Arthur's history that he met Lewis first. He met Lewis when his family's van broke down outside of Arthur's uncle's shop. They were talking as Arthur helped repair the van with his uncle. The two quickly became best friends with Arthur developing a hero-worshipping complex toward Lewis. He later met Vivi and Mystery and it was Vivi's idea to form the Mystery Skulls. He got dragged along for the ride. I also headcanon Arthur does not remember killing Lewis due to his searching for Lewis as shown near the end of Freaking Out. He only remembers going into the cave followed by darkness. When he woke up, he was missing his left arm and Lewis was gone. He knows Vivi doesn't remember Lewis and is doing his best to find Lewis and reunite him with Vivi, hoping it will return Vivi's memories.

I headcanon Arthur's self-esteem issues to be deep enough that they can become crippling. Due to Lewis no longer being around as an inspiration, he suffers from self-doubt. Should it get too bad, he slips into a quiet and hyper-focused mentality. He will forgo sleep and food to work on a project when troubled, as shown in canon when he was sleep deprived and looking for clues to Lewis' whereabouts.

I also headcanon Arthur was inspired by the anime FullMetal Alchemist's Automail for his own robotic arm. As such. the arm is detachable but works on attaching wires to nerv endings, making it extremely painful to remove. The arm is also able to give off sparks, showing electricity runs through it. This makes swimming a dangerous prospect to Arthur and he most likely avoids water when he has his robotic arm on.

I also headcanon Arthur's dejection in the group came from a simultaneous crush on both Lewis and Vivi, making his jealousy hurt all the more as they were happy together. It also fueled his self-doubt in that he wasn't a needed member of the team and always the third wheel in the couple's plans and paranormal investigations.

How will this character's presence likely impact players from that particular canon?: I see Arthur influencing them as any castmate would. They would have reason to interact and do things together as a group. The dynamic of Ghost!Lewis and Arthur could also be interesting as I headcanon Arthur doesn't remember killing Lewis. Other than the romantic feelings Arthur has for two of his castmates, it should be rather normal interactions as seen in canon.

Are you prepared to adjust your character's story in the event potential players from the same canon may find it conflicting to the canon?: Yes I would so long as they are open to discussion about it first. Due to the nature and limited resources of the music videos, it is important to come to a consensus on headcanon as we wait for more canon information and materials.

◎ Canon Point: Immediately after Freaking Out

◎ Background/History: The world of Mystery Skulls take place on a version of Earth where demons and ghosts exist. Though from the fact the Mystery Skulls are Paranormal Investigators it is easy to tell this is not common knowledge. Though some may believe in it, others are more than likely skeptics who view the world as rational and lacking of magic. Common popular series and items exist; such as Arthur's favorite show is Megas XLR and his favorite game being Smash Bros. This shows things we are familiar with are in the world of the Mystery Skulls. It just also has ghosts and people with anime colored hair.

When and how the Mystery Skulls gang became a gang is unknown, yet some information on their friendship is. Arthur grew up with his uncle Lance, working at his Uncle's mechanics shop as he got older. He befriended Lewis, Vivi, and Mystery sometime before the four of them decided to become a ghost investigation team. Arthur was reluctant to join but was dragged along anyway as the team's mechanic. Back home, Arthur also has a pet hamster named Galahad. He adopted Galahad when he discovered the hamster was partially paralyzed. Fortunately, Arthur's knowledge and interest in robotics allowed him to replace the hamster's paralyzed hind-legs with wheels, creating a cyborg hamster.

During their time together, Arthur became dejected. He was not nearly as happy as his teammates were as seen by his lack of smiling and raised spirits around his friends. One reason for this was Vivi and Lewis' relationship making him feel like a third wheel of the group. One night the team decided to investigate stories of a haunted cave. The cave was filled with a strange green mist. Arthur was quite terrified to venture into the cave and attempted to stay close to Lewis for his own safety. Unfortunately, the spirit infesting the cave latched onto Arthur and possessed his left arm. The spirit forced Arthur to push Lewis off of the cliff they had found, resulting in Lewis' death.

Unbeknownst to Arthur, Mystery then proceeded to bite off his right arm, preventing the ghost from taking over completely. All Arthur can remember from that night is a monster with lots of tails biting his arm off and Lewis going missing. Vivi, on the other hand, seemed to have completely forgotten Lewis somehow. The source of the amnesia is unknown. Arthur took it upon himself then to use Vivi's wanting to hunt ghosts as a way to look for Lewis. He was convinced was still alive and out there somewhere in the world. It was after this time, Arthur constructed his own robotic arm. He was partially inspired by an anime in his world about a boy with a metal arm and leg.

One night, while the team was traveling, the van mysteriously broke down. Arthur was unsure of the cause of the sudden breakdown. The van happened to stop in front of a rather large mansion. The group traveled inside the mansion only to find it haunted. Arthur, being the coward he is, was instantly afraid of the going on in the house. The group fled deeper into the mansion when ghosts appeared behind them. As the trio ran down a hallway they were attacked by a possessed suit of armor; which was mostly likely only aiming to hurt Arthur.

The narrowly dodged the suit of armor's sword but ended up in a long hallway surrounded by possessed portraits. The portraits scared the trio closer before activating a trap door. The three fell down into the darkness, passing magical mirrors that Arthur did not notice. Arthur was separated from Mystery and Vivi in the fall, crash landing alone in the ghost's lair. Arthur landed in a dark room with a coffin inside. The coffin opened to reveal a skeleton faced ghost with a golden heart. The ghost floated toward Arthur and pointed at him, revealing its intentions to kill him. The ghost ignited the torches around it and created a pompadour of pink fire for itself. Needless to say, Arthur was scared shitless and ran. The ghost gave chase.

Arthur ran through the mansion and passed the kitchen. Inside were Vivi and Mystery but he kept running. Soon all three were running from the ghost. Arthur was cornered and as the ghost came at him, Vivi stepped in the way and tried to shield him. The ghost and Vivi traded looks as the ghost's golden heart slowly floated toward Vivi. Before she could touch it, Arthur grabbed her hand and started pulling her toward the exit. The next thing Arthur knew, fiery explosions of purple fire were chasing them out of the mansion. The three escaped with Arthur pushing Vivi into the van and drove off as fast as he could. As they drove away, the mansion behind them vanished.

Several nights later, Arthur was up late researching possible locations of Lewis' whereabouts. He had been keeping careful track of all of the locations they explored, marking down where they found ghosts and no signs of Lewis. He had one potential location marked out on his computer. As he shut down his program, the background on his computer showed the four Mystery Skulls friends in Lewis' parent's cafe. Somehow, Lewis began to fade out of the picture yet Arthur didn't seem to notice.

It was then his robotic arm began to spark and malfunction. Arthur grabbed his arm and looked up to see the monster that bit his arm off. He became terrified until the monster seemed to notice him looking at it. Arthur suddenly woke up, as if it had all been a dream. He grabbed his arm and let out a scream, throwing his laptop into the air. The laptop hit him on the head and knocked him right out of the van. He possibly fell unconscious after this, due to being sleep deprived as he had not slept a single night since their run in with the ghost in the mansion.

◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Arthur is not a programming genius but he has some skills, the only example being an interactive map on his laptop. It shows he is able to do graphic design work and some programming. It's not to the level of a hacker but he does does have robotics and human-robotic interfacing knowledge. He build his own robotic arm and robotic wheels for his pet hamster Galahad. He'd be better at taking robots apart than hacking them, if he's not running away.

Arthur does seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to demonic energies. His robotic left arm sparks and malfunctions around demonic energies while Arthur goes into a panic attack like state. Not the most useful sixth-sense to have. Arthur can see and interact with ghosts and spirits as well. Though he mostly just runs away.

◎ Personality: Most people wouldn't describe Arthur Kingsmen as all that complex. On the surface, he is a bit of an oddball but an earnest one. He is sensible and reserved most of the time, quietly thinking or minding a project. Arthur is rather patient and has a great eye for detail that goes too far and is one of his biggest weaknesses. He is fastidious, often becoming too focused on making sure every detail of everything he does is perfect. Arthur cares about those around him and does his best to take care of them, at the risk of ignoring his own well being in the process. Arthur is also stubborn about things, often not letting others convince him to take care of himself or refusing to walk away from difficult projects. All of this culminates into Arthur being a rather tense person and one that has a hard time relaxing. Another contributing factor is Arthur's cowardice. He is afraid of a lot of things, the paranormal being one of the many things that sends him running for the hills. The man is a thinker, not a fighter.

Arthur's positive qualities make him a good friend to have. He cares about those close to him and will go to great lengths to do good by them. He wants his friends to like him and hopefully need him due to his ability to help. This is reflected in his creating the wheels for his hamster Galahad, upkeeping the van for the Mystery Skulls, and even going along with them in their adventures despite his fear. Arthur's genius also helps him to solve problems and discover things others may not. He enjoys making maps and plans, creating visual aids for helping accomplish the things he want as well as helping friends accomplish their own goals. Having Arthur in your corner doesn't mean you have someone standing with you on the battlefield but he'll build something for you to use or grab you to run away. That's at least something, right?

As for Arthur's negative traits, he has several and he's conscious of them all. He knows he is a perfectionist that focus far too much on minor details and gets distracted. He knows he's a complete coward and won't deny it. He's stubborn to the point of not letting himself sleep for days if it means helping someone else. He often needs reminders to eat and sleep when he's in such a mood. All of this stems from an inferiority complex Arthur seems to have. It is mostly likely due to his own comparison of himself to Lewis. Lewis, being the strong leader, jock, and Vivi's boyfriend makes Arthur feel less than adequate when he compares himself to Lewis. Perhaps it was his jealously that allowed the ghost in the cave to possess him. Whatever the case may be, Arthur isn't very proud of himself. When pressured too far, usually by himself, he slips into a quiet reserved sort of state where he won't say more than a few words at a time. It usually doesn't last very long but can be rather disconcerting to his friends.

Overall, Arthur is a good guy. He's a smart man with a drive to be needed. He wants those close to him to need him so he can be sure he has some worth. Where this comes from is unknown but he is earnest in his drives. He truly cares for people and doesn't strive so hard for just attention. He wants someone to want him like he wants them. Vivi, Mystery, and Lewis were most likely his first ever friends, which is why they mean so much to him. Arthur is just a guy trying to be the best friend he can be and hopes someone else sees him as a good friend, like he tries so desperately to be.

◎ Powers/Abilities: Arthur is a genius when it comes to robotics. He was able to replace his hamster's hind legs with working wheels and his own arm with a new robotic arm. He is a skilled mechanic and repairman. He can repair most average vehicles and enjoys looking over components to find out how to make a well working machine work even better. He has a decent knowledge of anatomy as well, but it's mostly in the context of attaching metal components to mechanical ones.

Arthur also has the ability to sense demonic energies. This was most likely due to Mystery biting his left arm off. When Mystery assumes his true self it set Arthur off, causing him to panic and for his robotic arm to malfunction - like phantom pain. This shows some ability to detect demons without seeing them as he started to freak out before he laid eyes on the transformed Mystery.

Arthur also is a rather good sprinter. He can run quickly over a large distance without getting tired too quickly. He might not set any Olympic records, unless he was REALLY scared, but the boy can run. It is one of the few things he is good at. Retreating is always Arthur's first instinct.

Lastly, Arthur has the automatic tendency to bob his head to any music in perfect sync with the rhythm of said music. He won't notice he's doing it but you bet he'll keep up with any song you throw at him. Strange, huh?

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory: A custom yellow laptop with Paopu fruit decal and his robotic arm.

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Air - Mostly because of Arthur's self-image of having no staying power and his cowardice.
◎ Sense: Sight - Because Arthur's main skills rely on his attention to detail with his eyes.
◎ Seven Character Traits: Positive: Creative, Loyal, Introspective | Negative: Overearnest, Fastidious, Tense | +1: Cowardly

Network: [Audio]

O-Okay! U-Uh...i-if anyone is in the Norther District...uh...I could use some h-HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP! [Suddenly static cuts into the transmission. There is the sound of snapping bark as well.]

IT SPITS ACID?! THAT'S NOT FAIR! AH! SOMEONE HELP ME! THIS MONSTER IS GOING TO MELT MY FACE OFF! G-GO AWAY! OH COME ON TREE! HANG ON! [More cracking bark noises.]

Oh no! No no NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

[If a tree falls on the network, everybody hears it. The last sound is a huge CRASH as the tree hits the ground. Then the call ends.]

Third Person:

Arthur bit his bottom lip as he leaned over the engine of the Mystery Skulls van. When the van appeared in Nautilus, it was working fine. What was wrong with it now? It wouldn't start at all. He checked the ignition switch and the gas line. No issues there. There had to be something keeping the ignition from turning over. He tilted his head to the side, trying to look at it from another angle. His uncle taught him that. If you couldn't see the problem from one angle, try another, then keep trying until you find it. It wasn't like the van just decided to stop running. That wasn't how it worked, even in a place as crazy as Nautilus.

Finally something caught Arthur's attention. A small corner of white stuck out from one of the components, but he could only see it from the side. He reached out with his hand, trying to grab it. Fingers gently took the corner between them and began to pull. Paper? Who put paper in his van engine?! Arthur huffed as he pulled the offensive material up and out. It was blank on one side. He stared at it and started to think of who would do this. Vivi and Mystery wouldn't have, that would be ridiculous. Why would they want the van to stop working? Maybe it was a practical joke from someone else in the city. It wasn't very funny if that was the case.

The blond turned the paper around in his hand and his heart froze. It wasn't a piece of paper, it was a picture. Lewis, Vivi, Mystery, and him in Lewis' family cafe. He stared at the image of his screaming about his mouth being hot. Everyone was concerned for Lewis except for Mr. Pepper, she always hated loud noises, Vivi and Mystery, and Belle. Cayenne had put hot sauce in his milkshake. Vivi and Mystery found her under the table. Which was right when Belle had snapped the picture.

Arthur pressed his back to the side of the van and slowly sank down to the ground. He stared at the picture. Where did this come from? Why was it in the van engine? Who would have put it there? Arthur's mind swam with questions until the obvious answer hit him. Nautilus. The city did it. Why? Why did he give him this picture? He didn't have his laptop here in the city, was that why? Or did he give it to him to taunt him? That ghost in the city came to mind. The one that said he was Lewis and that Arthur had killed him. The blond started to shake. Tears stung his eyes as they fell down his cheeks. He closed his eyes and shook harder.

"I...I'm sorry..." He said quietly. Arthur set the picture on the floor of the garage. He just sat there, letting his tears fall. He couldn't bring himself to move. Was this what the city was trying to tell him? That it was his fault? That they were all in the city and that ghost really was Lewis? No. He already knew it was true but he was trying to deny it. Maybe this was the city telling him to stop denying it. At least this time it wasn't dunking him in that cold river water. Then again, maybe that would have been nicer.

"...I should give the picture to Vivi..." he said aloud as the idea hit him. She deserved it more than he did.
